Cooking driftwood for the aquarium
Snag is a chic addition to the interior of the aquarium. Driftwood secrete tannins that soften water, which is favorable for most fish.
The easiest and fastest way to get and prepare a snag is to go to the nearest pond and look for a ready one there. Harvesting should be selected among hardwoods. For example, apple tree, pear, nut, willow roots, oak. It is preferable to take the lower parts of the tree, that is, the roots. Besides the fact that they have a beautiful structure, the roots have harder wood that does not lend itself to decay in the aquarium. It is better to make several blanks at once, later choosing the most suitable one for decorating the aquarium or using two, three, etc. for this purpose
After the snag is selected, it must be cleaned of dirt, bark. If there are areas with rotten wood, then they must be removed. The surface is treated with a knife, sandpaper or a file. After cleaning, the snag is placed in water for a day. However, it is necessary to make the snag drown in the aquarium. Snag will not sink, as it is saturated with minerals. It is simply worth boiling in saline. To do this, driftwood is placed in water and a saturated saline solution is prepared. Salt is added to the water. About ten kilograms of salt should be used per ten liters of water. An important condition is that the container in which further processing of the workpiece is planned should be made of food stainless steel or enameled. Snag boils from 3-5 to 12 hours. If the snag does not fit completely in the water, then initially it is worth boiling one end of it, and then, turning it over, boil the rest of it. After this, it is worth taking potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate). Initially, it should be dissolved in a small amount of water. 6-8 grams of potassium permanganate are used per ten liters of water. It is poured into containers with driftwood and saline. Under the influence of potassium permanganate, the driftwood will acquire a more saturated color and undergo disinfection.
After digestion, the snag must be filled with water and boiled in water for three hours. This is necessary so that excess salt and manganese come out of wood. After boiling, the snag drops in clean water and continues to be soaked from three days to two weeks. Every day you need to change the water. After this, the snag will sink and can be used in the decor of the aquarium.
As a result, the processed driftwood is completely ready for use in the decoration of the aquarium. She will delight the eye for more than one year and give it originality, beauty and naturalness.
