Under natural conditions, the ophthalmic cichlazoma lives in the Amazon and Rio Negro river basins. This species of fish was brought to Europe in 1904.
Ophthalmic cichlazoma belongs to the family of cichlids (the second name is cichlids). This genus of fish lives only in fresh water.
The length of the ocular cichlazoma reaches 16 cm. Dots of bright green color are distributed throughout the body of this species. A special property is their unique ability to change color in case of danger and when changing mood. Females are not colored as brightly as males and have vertical stripes on their sides. The ophthalmic cichlase is quite aggressive in nature and gets along very badly with other fish species. But despite this, aquarists really like it because of its very bright and beautiful color.
This type of fish prefers food that is traditional for the cichlid family: frozen and dry food from manufacturers such as NeonTropical Diet, Neon Fish Meat and several others of this type.
Maintenance and care
Ophthalmic cichlazoma can live exclusively in spacious and well-purged aquariums, the temperature in which should be approximately 25 - 28 degrees above zero.
In terms of breeding, this species of fish has its own characteristics. The female spawns necessarily on large stones. After their birth, the kids hide in small pits, which the male made in advance. After some time, young growth begins to accompany its parents everywhere.
