Aquarium Fish Treatment
To date, a huge variety of different medications against aquarium fish diseases has appeared. But often, before starting treatment for aquarium fish, it is necessary to identify the causative agent of the disease, its type, and only then determine which drug is needed to get rid of the disease of your pets. And to do all this with unshakable accuracy in our time is quite difficult due to the fact that every year there are more and more new ones, as well as mutating old diseases, and for the treatment with a specific drug, you must first know the name of the disease that we have to fight . Therefore, we offer you a short article on how to use table salt to eliminate the diseases of your pets.
Salt treatment is one of the most common methods among the people, since salt has excellent disinfecting properties and helps to destroy pathogenic bacteria. But most aquarists do not know about which fish can be treated in this way, and to which the use of salt is strictly prohibited.
Salt treatment for aquarium fish is highly discouraged. barbs, catfish (especially to those species that differ by the presence of suction cups) also young fish from the labyrinth family and others.
Too many breeders use the addition of table salt in the main aquarium in the amount of about 1-2 teaspoons per 10 liters of water as a preventive measure. Fish gradually get used to salted water and feel comfortable, but the problem is that they will never be able to live in fresh water again.
It is also not recommended to use table salt in aquariums where numerous algae grow, since they are extremely difficult to tolerate salted water with a high content of chlorine and sodium. But at the same time, water salting helps in the fight against parasite algae that breed on the walls of the aquarium, stones, shells and greatly spoil its design and appearance.
Treatment of aquarium fish with salt is justified in cases where diseases such as boneosis, chylodoneles, trichodinosis, gyrodactylysis other. Of course, professional drugs to combat these diseases can be different, but an increased concentration of salt in water neutralizes almost all of their pathogens, which usually have a fungal nature.
A characteristic feature of these diseases is that the fish begin to rub against stones, soil, decorations and plants, white mucous secretions appear on their scales that glue the fins, the fish begin to rise to the surface and near aeration devices. If you notice such signs, provided that the aquarium has created all the necessary conditions for the normal life of the fish (water temperature, lighting, aeration, purity of water, etc.), then this is most likely a manifestation of the aforementioned diseases.
It is recommended to place sick fish for 5-10 minutes in a saline solution with a concentration of 1.5-1.7%. Such a bath completely kills all pathogens.
Thus, treating aquarium fish with salt is a very effective method, but like all “non-medical” methods it requires extreme caution, following the instructions and caution, so as not to harm your pets.
