Fern bolbitis heteroclite (standard, deformis, cuspidate)
Heteroclite Bolbitis is a fern grown in aquariums. For decoration, several types of fern are used:
- Bolbitis heteroclite standard;
- Bolbitis heteroklita deffokmis;
- Bolbitis heteroclite cuspidate.
In the natural environment, they are found in the tropics of Africa, Southeast Asia. They grow in small rivers and streams with a fast current. As a rule, they are fixed on snags, stones and other surfaces. They grow in the shade of tropical trees. Bolbitis heteroclite cuspidate in the wild is found on Luzon Island in the Philippines.
Different types of bolbitis fern have external differences. So bolbitis heteroclite deformis resembles parsley in leaf structure, grows up to 5-7 cm, therefore it is sometimes called “mini bolbitis”.
Bolbitis heteroclite standard is a bright green color. Leaf blades grow along the rhizome and reach a length of 10 cm, 5 cm wide, and may turn brown. This species is best suited for use as a terrarium plant. It is characterized by slow growth when submerged.
Bolbitis heteroclite propagated by division of the root. To do this, a healthy plant with a sharp knife is divided into small pieces, be sure to have at least 3 leaves in each. Planting material is attached to stones, snags with a fishing line. Please note that during any planting of a fern, the root should not be immersed in the ground, otherwise it will begin to rot.
Placement in the aquarium
Bolbitis heteroclite is used to design the middle line of the aquarium. Dark green leaves create an excellent contrast with other plants, for example, it is advantageously combined with specimens of dark red color. Used by designers to create group compositions, looks great with Thai ferns.
In the aquarium design, with the help of bolbitis, heteroclit compositions are created in the style of "island", "primitive jungle".
When placing the plant in a permanent place, you can attach it to snags, roots, which are placed on the bottom. For this, experts recommend the use of cotton thread, fishing line, super glue, glue for coral. During these procedures, the fern should not be allowed to dry.
Bolbitis heteroklite deformis is great for decorating nano-aquariums, paludariums. You can place this compact plant in a large aquarium, then there will be a feeling of scale.
Conditions of detention
This fern is recommended to be grown by experienced aquarium enthusiasts. The plant is demanding on living conditions, grows slowly. The water temperature should be 22-27 ° C. He likes soft or medium hard water. It can do without CO2, but application is acceptable. Lighting is poor, you can use other plants to create shadows for it, you must protect it from bright light, otherwise the fern may die.
When planting a plant in a permanent place, you need to remember that the rhizomes of these aquatic ferns can not be buried in the ground. The plant may die.
Ferns need to create intense water movement, so it is recommended to plant it closer to the filter.
Bolbitis heteroclite is suitable for cultivation in the paludarium. In this case, greasy soil is required, preferably sphagnum, peat. High humidity and air temperature 26-30 ° C are required. Providing the same conditions, the plant can be placed along the banks of small decorative ponds.
